Our students had an opportunity to meet DMD Alisha K. and DMD Garet K. as well as the entire Galesville Dental staff. These students will have an opportunity to participate in a job shadow with Galesville Dental during the coming semester. This week the AP US History students learned about some of Trempealeau's local history and its connection to Cahokia, the largest Native American settlement in the United States prior to European colonization. Students prepared last week by learning about Cahokia and the Mississippian culture and then learned about the local mounds which were created by an offshoot from Cahokia. They learned about the local mounds' purpose and the controversy in creating the hike up to Little Bluff from the book "Buried Indians: Digging Up the Past in a Midwestern Town," by Laurie Hovell McMillin. Finally, this week they hiked up Little Bluff in Trempealeau to see what Native Americans around 1,000 years ago found so sacred and special about this region.
